Emily Chernett: Indian Culture

My country that I researched about was India. India is located in Southern Asia. I was so excited to have my country based off of India because it seemed that India was a very festive country, and I just wanted to learn more about it. I learned so much about india. I also learned about their type of government, which is Federal republic, and the different holidays that most people celebrate. Most people in India are Hindu. One of the most fun and festive holidays that people who are Hindu celebrate is called Holi. Holi is a fun festival. Holi means Colors. the reason they call this festival Holi, is because what you do is you get powder paint and you just throw it at everyone. Many people enjoy this holiday because it is so much fun. Holi happens more towards the end of a cold season. I would want to try to experience Holi in India, because it seems like a very fun holiday to celebrate. In India they don't have very many different laws, but the ones that they have, are very important laws that you must follow. In India drugs are very illegal. If you get caught with them, it’s an automatic 10 years in jail. Another law in India is that you have to at least be 18 years old in order to buy or drink alcohol. Another law is that you do not have to show ID when you are trying to buy alcohol. I don’t agree with that rule because if you are very under age drinking, bad things could happen. When I researched about India’s history, it showed me about their independence day. India’s independence day is known as Republic Day. Republic day is very similar to what we call our Independence day, also known as 4th of July. There are many different parades and festivals that happen on Republic Day. India celebrates this holiday because it represents India’s freedom from Britain. This holiday happens every January 26th. india has been celebrating this holiday since 1950. This holiday seems really fun. I enjoy celebrating July 4th, and Republic Day is very similar to that, so I bet most people in India enjoy it. I've learned a lot about India and I want to learn more throughout the year.

  1. Your presentation was really good. Both of our country's are in Asia. We also have the alcohol age of 18. It is the same in both of our country's.
